I scored 17/21 on the right brain/left brain test which means I have a strong right brain. I think my results are very accurate because the right-hemisphere functions apply very well to me. As matter of fact :
I find myself experiencing flow on different occasions, mostly in my work. When i’m facing a project that I find interesting, I work on it for several hours in a row without noticing the time going by. I realize afterwards that I was in a state of absolute absorption, having obstacles that were immediately solved and without trouble. I think that flow comes to me when I love the project I’m working on and want to give it my best, it’s a a state of challenge to me.
Here are some web addresses I visit very often and find really interesting, I invite you all to check them out :
Pascal Zoghbi is a lebanese Arabic Type Designer and Typographer. He mostly creates new Arabic fonts, corporate identities and print design applications and publications. What I like about his work is mostly the concepts and ideas behind each piece and the the way he mixes and plays with type.
Here are some examples and descriptions of his work :
Association Libanaise des Orthophonistes. The speech box and sound waves represent the logotype for ALO. The font ‘FF Blur’ was chosen since it characterizes in it’s rounded modulated strokes the spirit of the sound waves. Furthermore, simplified shapes from the sound waves where created to be used in the logotype. Since the association deals with speaking and hearing problems, the final logotype was based on the shape of the speech box and the simplified shapes of the sound waves. The shape can also be a simplified shape of an ear.
Meen Inta is a logotype produced for a series of flyers/posters about Lebanese artists/designers. The main shape started from a question mark symbol (?). It is a rounded and based on a circular grid. The logotype is composed of detached Arabic letters but at the same time the letters are connecting and looping together. The logotype gives the feel of a maze or the feel of questioning. That is due to the fact that the flyers/posters main concept is to make the viewer ask who is this artist or designer who is introduced.
The masthead of the magazine is ‘coma’ and the ‘o’ is replaced by an arabic comma to state that the Arabic typography is in a coma. It is struggling for life. It’s dying if we, the arab typographers and politicians, don’t let it progress and develop. A ‘serum’ is placed on the cover of the magazine to clarify the message and acts as a promotional item for the magazine.

Description :
Graffiti are images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner, they are a form of public lettering. The streets of lebanon are more and more filled with Graffiti expressing public opinion and thoughts. Some people think of it as art, others vandalism and others a culture of its own. I think the street art community in lebanon is small but talented and has the potential to expand to a professional level.
Here are some images of graffiti in lebanon :
Something dynamic is in my opinion something full of life, interactive and constantly moving. It is something versatile that shows motion and that has a lot to do with change.
Print media characterized as analogue, sequential and static can take on the dynamism of new media in different ways. For instance we have still images or prints that are part of the old or print media that show dynamism, that is the case of moving objects in photography. As matter of fact, slow shutter speed photography allows us to have a printed image that is very dynamic, only by capturing a moment where the element photographed is moving. We can also see dynamism in print media through a use of certain colors, shapes and mostly lines. Bright colors, spiral or geometrical shapes, curvy or even linear lines with their direction, perspective and excess can have a major role when it comes to bringing out the dynamic side of the old media.
Here are some examples of print media that are very dynamic :
“Dynamism of a Man’s Head” by Umberto Boccioni
“Dynamism of a Cyclist” by Umberto Boccioni
Boccini uses different textures and materials, combining them with curvy shapes and a lot of lines making his work full of Dynamism.
“Geometric Dynamism 1″ by GE designs
“Geometric Dynamism 2″ by GE designs
“Geometric Dynamism 3″ by GE designs
The essence of Dynamism in the GE Design paintings comes from the use of bright colors in contrast with blacks;and the use of geometrical and straight linear shapes.
This picture is very dynamic although it’s a still image, the fact we see the whole thing happening in slow motion makes it full of life.
The graphic design form I’m interested in is a combination of Poster an Typeface Design.
On one hand, posters can be any piece of paper attached to a vertical surface which means they are of common use, very practical and an effective way of communication. They can have different sizes, shapes and can be found anywhere. Posters are also found in various types : We can have propaganda and political posters, advertising posters, event posters, educational posters and others. Poster design is a very diverse form of graphic design that combines concept and esthetics and allows a lot of freedom in the process.
On another hand, Typeface design allows us to create something new and useful out of anything. It is the design of letterforms with stylistic unity and therefore allows a lot of freedom within a few rules.
One of my favorite Typeface/Poster designers is Reza Abedini because of the personal manner in which he combines modern and traditional themes in his unique style and the way he transforms an assemblage of letters into beautiful and meaningful works of art.
This poster by Reza Abedini for the “Persian Type and Typography Lecture” is made out of words in different languages and fonts that makes the whole piece very appealing and attractive to the eye. I think it’s a perfect typographical combination of esthetics and concept.
